Happy New Year

This is how we are starting off 2009 - with a snowstorm! We all stayed put and relaxed at home. Mom went outside to get a picture during the last couple of hours in 2008.

Here is another picture taken New Year's Eve when our beans made a quick run to the gas station. Mom was trying to get a photo of the falling snow when another car drove along side and parked. She moved the camera then making this strange picture - you can't see the car, but you can see red streaks from it's lights and even the tracks it made in the snow.

All the very best to everyone in 2009!

Update:
A photo taken today around noon. Very winter-y.

Bono: This is taken out of our window, looking across our street. Umm, I think I am going to spend days when we have blizzards, like this.

Mom's wool sweater is so warm, I think I may keep it.

A Good Day

A good day for us means leftover turkey. We can't help it, we are in the kitchen a lot in case someone opens the coldbox. We always manage to keep the door open by sticking our furry heads in there and keep the door open as long as possible so we can get a fix on the location of the leftover turkey.

We are worried though. The amount of turkey is seriously shrinking. Before it disappears completely, we cats are getting together to stage a raid to turn up the cuteness factor and persuade the beans that we are capable of finishing off the rest. Good plan?

Bono:

I often get up on top of the coldbox. It's the best lookout place.

Mindy:What do you think?

I'll just pretend I don't want turkey.........the beans will automatically try to get me to eat some.

Moe:
Yikes that flashy box is bright! Can I open my eyes now?

Did someone say there is still some turkey left? Oh, boy, this IS a good day!

It is 5:15pm on Dec. 29 and mom is now taking pictures of the sky.

She saw the star and moon appear just after sundown. (you can click on the picture to get a better look at the tiny dots of light) It was a lovely, sunny winter day.

Photo Hunt - Wide

Photo Hunters

The Photo Hunters Scavenger Hunt was started by tnchick, and anyone can play along.

This week's theme is W I D E. Mom and I thought about this and agreed that I, Mindy, should be featured. We found a photo that expresses wide we think, and stars me, of course.

How about "wide open"!

Sixth Photo Meme

We have been tagged, ages ago, by Everycat and Sunny for the Sixth Photo Meme.

Here are the rules:

Go to your Picture Folder on your computer or wherever you store your pictures.
Go to the 6th Folder and then pick the 6th Picture.
Post it on your bloggy and tell the story that goes with the picture.
Tag 5 other glorious peoples to do the same thing and leave a comment on their bloggy
tellin’ them ’bout it.

Our sixth folder and picture is one of some land owned by a member of dad bean's family. It is on the Atlantic Ocean at the head of a long harbour. It is peaceful, wooded, and has a beautiful view. Oh, and it's for sale. Mom bean took the picture.

Now we will tag anyone that has not done this fun meme, but we think everyone has done it by now.

Moe:

Mindy:

Bono:
is it time to eat yet?

Healthy Breakfast

I always eat a healthy breakfast. However, I like to try new things. This morning, I had my usual crunchies and a spoonful or two of stinky goodness. Then I watched mom make breakfast for herself. I saw her breakfast bowl on the counter, waiting until the kettle boiled. I thought I'd give her breakfast a try. I am open to new things, especially new tasty things.

Mom caught me just as I was licking the yummy looking stuff on top of her cereal and mom said "Bono, don't!" I shoulda listened. It was flax meal! I got a mouthful. I walked around the kitchen chewing and shaking my head. That stuff is evil, I couldn't get rid of it. Mom was amused and annoyed at the same time.

I had to get a big drink of water.

.....and wash my face afterwards. Mom finally got to cook her breakfast, but I don't think I would like it cooked either. So remember, some things are not as good as they look.

Photo Hunt - Favorite

Photo Hunters

Favorite? It's had to pick just one!

Here's a favorite of all us cats at our place.

Temptations cat treats. Yum, yum.

The next two photos are favorite places.

Bono:

My favorite place to nap is my box on top of the mini fridge in the kitchen. I can see all from here and not be underfoot - unless I want to be, ha, ha.

Moe:

And my favorite place is MY box, near the 'up'stairs and by the windows. I don't miss a thing that's going on. Everyone has to pass me to get to the stairs or the kitchen.

Mindy:

My favorite is a person - mom. I like to be where ever she is. Stinky goodness is probably my next favorite.

Furball Update

Mom says the last of the six tiny fuzzy kittens has a home! - see previous post. Whew, maybe now she will pay at least some attention to us. We feel neglected. We think we might have missed a snack or two. This will not do - at all!

Of course we are very, very pleased that the adorable kittens have homes of their very own. Their foster mom is also very happy.

Moe: I can relax now, I am getting my scritches and attention. So here is my reaction.

Do I look 'flaked out'? Mom thinks I look too relaxed....she thinks I need some more drama in my life. Not!

Mindy:

I am so glad that none of the little furballs ended up coming here. I am the only diva, and that's the way it should be!

Bono:

I want to look good, so I work at it. You just never know who will be checking out my picture.

Tiny Furballs

Mom has been busy all this week. There is a senior lady in her neighbourhood who has six tiny kittens. Somehow, this lady got (or took) the momma cat.....from a relative? Not sure. from her granddaughter who was moving. Then the pretty calico had 5 boys and 1 girl. So our mom and another neighbour have been trying to help the lady find homes for the kittens. They are are furry, furry cute!

Here are the babies.

The girl has found a great forever home. Someone is very interested in one of the boys.

Here is their pretty mamma.

We hope she will be able to find a good forever home too!

Mancat Monday

Moe: I am considering. What is my plan for today? Do I need a plan?

Bono: I definitely have a plan. You are currently viewing my plan for today.

Last Monday, the 24th of November, it was a beautiful day. Perfect for the opening of lobster season on our shore. Anyone out there like lobster?

This day is called 'setting day', that's when you are allowed to set your lobster pots into the water - if you have a license.

Here are some of the pots or traps, both traditional wooden and more modern wire ones. No matter, both types are heavy.

There was a snowstorm two days before opening season, so these traps are filled with snow. Also bait and weights.

The day after 'setting' day is 'looking' day. Rules are firm, one must not haul the traps and look for lobster before this.

In less than half an hour, this fishing boat was off to another part of the bay to set the traps. The season will last until the end of May, however, most of the 'catch' will occur by the end of December in this bay. After December the water gets colder and the lobsters tend to stop crawling into the traps and the catch falls off. It is also very cold and damp for fishing later on, so some of the traps are taken out when fewer lobsters are caught. Each area in our province has its own lobster season. When it is open in our bay, it is closed somewhere else.

It is very hard work to do this type of fishing, so we are glad we are cats and if all goes well, maybe our beans will buy a lobster and share it with us.
