How Do You Drink Water?

Mindy says:

Continuing the theme about cats and water from our previous post in which Momo had to do the swim of her life, today's post is entirely different.  The only similarity being that both cats seemed to like water other than for drinking.

Last night when my dadbean was sitting at the computer, he started to laugh, and laugh.  Of course, being a curious cat I had to go over an see what was so amusing.

He was watching an online video called Does Your Cat Drink Like This?

I didn't actually find it funny, but I did find it quite amazing.  l would never, ever, drink water like this.  I would not even dip my paw in my water dish like Moe does, much less let it run all over my head!!

We are Lucky Cats

We are lucky kitties because of where we live.  We are not usually subject to earthquakes or flooding, as we are on high ground, nor tornadoes.  Our biggest threats from natural disaster would be a bad hurricane, snowstorm or a forest fire.

This week, we heard about a brave kitty called Momo who lives in Alberta, Canada. Recently this province has been hit with a slow moving storm which has dropped unprecedented amounts of rain filling the rivers to over flowing.  These rivers spilled down the Rocky Mountains and quickly caused massive flooding in this province.

Momo 's owner had rushed home to rescue her from the rising waters around their home.  They were making their getaway in the truck until the vehicle hit a deep spot and started sinking.

Both Momo and her owner escaped the truck but had to swim.  They both made it to shore and were pulled to safety.  Momo's owner knew she liked paddling around in the bathtub, but was amazed she could swim so far.

Read the story here

Some photos here

Yes, we cats can swim if needed, however useful, we would prefer to NOT to have use this skill, unless our lives depend on it, right?   Any kitties out there LIKE to swim?

Moe
I like to watch water swirl around in the laundry room set tub, and sometimes I like to stick my paw in the water dish while I drink from it.

Mindy
Water is strictly for drinking, and I like it cool and fresh.

Mike
I don't really need water for my washing up; um, I'll just use my amazing tongue.

Cookie
I think a cloth dampened with a bit of water might collect some of my fur that has collected on this chair but on second thought, forget it; 'my' chair is perfect the way it is!!

Have a safe and happy first week of summer!

Photo Hunt - DayDream

The theme for this week's Saturday Photo Hunt is - Daydream and Sculptures.

Here is our photo, taken last Thursday.

It is easy to daydream of being aboard the cruise ship MS Maasdam as it leaves our harbour after spending a lovely and warm, sunny day in our port.  It is about to pass the lighthouse on Hangman's Beach on McNab's Island.

Our photo of sculpture for this theme is a statue of Samuel Cunard who started the Cunard shipping company - his day dreams turned into reality with the success of his business

Did you know we kitties like to daydream!

This is a stray kitty that likes to hang out over at our 'furcousin's' home and our human likes to think it was doing a bit of daydreaming while enjoying this green and shady spot.  She had to use the long lens on the camera because this kitty is very nervous of strangers.

....and here are the four of us, daydreaming in our own ways:

Almost Summer!

Yep, by tomorrow we will have the longest day of this year! Wow, we wonder how many meals and snacks we can connive outa our humans. After all we need to keep up our strength during the l-o-n-g-e-s-t day!

Mindy:  I am waiting for the refrigerator to open, so's I can make my selection of tasty treats.  I think I saw some ham in there.

Moe:  From here I have a great view and I manage to get lots of attention as well, important when food hunting.

Mike:  My watching for treats place is perfect for me, on top of the trash bin.  Excellent view of all the food related activity.

Cookie:  I cannot see, but I hear just fine, my nose works well and I can speak very loud.  I don't miss any treats.

Gosh, are we too demanding?

One great thing about spring, though, is the lovely colorful flowers!  Our humans took a photo of this beautiful rhododendron!  It is not ours, though, because ours are not quite open.

This one is in the front lawn of a house that is up for sale.  Great timing!!

Whap'n Wednesday

Mindy and Moe ...... oh, oh, intense eye contact

Mindy:  I was here first, and I'm not leaving.

Moe:  This calls for action!

See that catnip leaf?   There's only one of it, but two of us.

We found this charming page A Photographic Journey of a Grandma and her Cat, so we thought we would share it for our visitors to enjoy!

Saturday Photo Hunt - Grin

Mindy says:

Here is my entry for theThe Saturday Photo Hunt - Grin

I did my best, but this is as close to 'grin' as I am going to get,  without a lot more practice!!

Have a great weekend everyone!   Ours happens to be very windy and rainy as a result of a passing tropical storm.  Some participants in this week's Photo Hunt are are also posting "sky" photos.  There is way too much rain for a 'today' shot, but here is one from yesterday showing the gathering cloud banks on the horizon.

However, when our human beans  were out getting some fresh air they also took this photo.

I thought I would share it!

PS - Several people have asked -  this is the pink Lady's Slipper (called 'slipper' because of the shape of the bloom) which grows wild in forested areas in Nova Scotia and does not mind acidic soil.  There is also a yellow Lady's Slipper, which grows only in areas where there are limestone deposits (near the gypsum mine for instance) so it is not as common.

Storm Warning Friday

Mike says:
It's still nice outside this morning so far.  Tonight we will get a visit from Tropical Storm Andrea.  So by tomorrow morning we should be getting a 'wind and rain event', which means I will plan a nap event, since bird TV will be off.

Moe says:

I think I will rest here a while and then go on a food hunt.

Cookie says:
I lay claim to the office/music room, it's cozy and warm in here and I am willing to share this space with my humans.

Mindy says:
I have some unsettling news, a different kind of 'storm'.  We live near a large harbour and this one has several lighthouses.  I was thinking that years ago, perhaps some of my ancestors lived in ones like this with the light keepers.  Sadly, some of these lighthouses are in jeopardy.

This one is on George's Island in Halifax Harbour, you can see it in this photo that our mombean took.  It is maintained by our federal government, but probably not for much longer.

Who is this?

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

Today is set aside to " Hug Your Cat " - all day!

We got hugged today, and yesterday, and we're counting on tomorrow, too!

Lots of kitties don't get hugs, or food, or love.

We're very thankful

What's New and What's Not, on Monday

First, what's not new - Mike, foreground and Moe, background starting the day off with a good snooze.

What's new?  Well these have appeared across our street in the empty lot.

We found out that these are human litterboxes.  Our mombean says this can only mean, finally, our street is going to get repaved.

To confirm these suspicions, this big, noisy machine pulled up and parked in front.  Oh good, we get to snoopervise the goings on.

Here is that forsythia bush in the above photo, a few days earlier.   We can hardly believe our eyes - Spring has finally arrived.

Oh, here comes another noisemaker

Mindy:  I wonder if there is anyway to close my ears off from all of this!!

Enjoy Monday everyone (else)!!
