Photo Hunt - Quaggy

We were not sure what photo to post for 'quaggy', but we will try.  We think it might mean something like a wetland where you have to watch where you walk - because without warning you might end up in a 'fix' or a 'situation', unless you were prepared.

We have a spot in our backyard that we call 'the bog'.  There are a few iris planted there - not in bloom right now.  Lots of fern and moss.

If you look at the water you may see the tree pollen floating on the surface.  If you were to fall in you would get extremely muddy, as underneath the water is a quagmire of soil and decayed leaves.   The frogs like this place.

Moe:

Have no fear, I will not venture out to the quaggy bog.  I am way too comfortable, spending my Saturday viewing life from here.

Mindy:

Good point Moe, but I usually keep watching out the window for the pheasant.  I often see him coming up from the direction of the bog.  It's my entertainment for a lazy Saturday.

Cookie:

I got to go outside this morning and snack of some fresh blades of grass, but the bog holds no appeal for me.

Mike:
What?  There is a bog out there in our backyard?  Should I be concerned?  I think I will sleep on these questions.

All this being said, our visitors might like to go to The Saturday PhotoHunt to visit more participants.

Have a grand weekend!

Photo Hunt - Copper

It's Saturday and time to post our Photo Hunt photo.  The theme this week is 'copper'

We had to go on a hunt through our house.   We know there are things made of copper around, so this is what we found.

Except for the pennies, the tankard and dish are gifts.   The copper dish is special to us because it was made by our dad's mother.  Her hobby was working in metal arts and made many lovely things with not only copper, but stirling silver - jewellery was a specialty of hers and she won prizes for her lovely designs!

Those shiny pennies are a keepsake to us, since they are now not produced anymore for circulation in our country as it costs more than the face value to make them, or so we are told.

To see more participants in this week's Photo Hunt, go to:

We also have a  'copper' colored cat, however, Moe did not want his photo taken so you  will have to look at us instead!

Mike is at the top of the stairs and Mindy is the cute one farther down.

Mike says:  just to prove I am also cute, I insisted on more photos of me!

I just have to have a quick bath, so I look good!

Okay, the bath took longer than I expected and I was exhausted, so I fell asleep.

Actually all four of us kitties are in sleep mode, because it's so foggy and it has been raining for days and days and there are not many birds coming to our feeder for us to watch.

Have a great weekend everyone, hope you are getting some sunshine!

Whacky Wednesday

Moe: Is our blog title word 'whacky' spelled right, or should we lose the 'h'?   Our typist - aka - mombean, isn't sure.

As you can see from my photo today - I am a little, um 'whacky' myself because we have a new scratching post with a little catnip added!

This makes my day!  I even shared it with Mindy.

Mindy:  Of course Moe you have to share!  I like the new catnip scratch post too!  Although, I don't seem to get as whacky.

I love investigating anything new, especially when it is something special for us.
Not much going on outside today - on account of the rainy day.  Apparently, it is supposed to rain tomorrow and into the weekend.   Yikes.

This means that looking out of our window is not so much fun, however, there are a few brave birds at our feeder.   The pheasant shrieks when it wants seeds put out......so loud!

Here I am on the bed keeping dadbean company.  He is suffering from a bad cold, so I am helping him to feel better and get well quick!

Looks like I have to share with Mike and Moe too.

Mindy:  I am quite sure that it is my care and attention that will do the most to cure dadbean!

We hope our friends are having a drier day, perhaps even a sunny day!

Finally Friday

Moe says:

I have an announcement - our city council has voted to provide funds to help the local SPCA spay/neuter stray and feral cats!

Halifax chips in $40,000 toward SPCA spay-neuter clinic | The Chronicle Herald

This money will also help low income families with this  surgery so that their pets will be healthier.

Good news.

Local Feral TNR

Mindy reporting today -

I thought I'd show you a link to an article posted on this site

http://meinkat.com/2013/05/06/salty-cats/

about feral cat rescue in my city.

Pierre Filiatreault started working with feral cats at the naval dockyard a few years ago using trap-neuter-return which has turned out to be quite successful.  Here is his website:  Pierre's Alley Cat Society

We always buy one of his Dockyard Cats calendars to help support this effort.   Eventually Pierre would like to construct a cat sanctuary to help the feral cats even more.

We salute Pierre for his success and great vision!!

Saturday Photo Hunt - Lazy

Moe says: Yes I am looking lazy this morning, however, I am not lazy at all, I am merely conserving my energy!   For instance, I may be called upon to warn intruder cats not to invade our yard.  So far, I am doing a great job, didn't see any strangers.

Thankful Thursday

Mike:  This is how I am going to spend today - I highly recommend this method.

The thankful part of this post is - we have a new computer, the old one kept losing its mind, well actually its memory.    It took us a few days to break it in - under my supervision of course, which is probably why it took so much time.

Have a great day everyone!

Photo Hunt - Wither

This tall perennial grass grows beside our driveway.  It is probably about 7 or 8 feet high and  it goes by the name of giant silver grass.   The long green leaves have 'withered' and were blown away by the winter winds, leaving behind these tall, dried stalks.    Now that  spring has arrived, these old stalks in their state of 'wither' will be cut back to allow the renewed growth to take over.

To see more participants, go to Photo Hunt

Moe:  I keep looking out of our window hoping to see lots of green grass.
I can see our planter where we grow our catnip - that is definitely in a state of wither!  I keep looking to see if it will grow again.  I am impatient, waiting is hard.

Mindy:  Lots of fog and wind outside, when I looked out of our window.
However, we have been told that it will be a sunny day tomorrow - after all it will be SUNday.

Cookie:  I am going to spend my day here in the music room/office space.
I have my choice of comfy office chairs to occupy.

Mike: Aw, you caught me taking my bath!

See, my toes are clean!

Enjoy your weekend everyone!!

Monday Morning

Moe:    First day of the week.  Tradition says that it is wash day

Therefore I am starting the week off right!

Mindy:   This is my favorite viewing spot - up high enough that I can see what goes on, when it happens, and who is planning to sneak up on me.

Also, I think I look good up here.

Mike:  My nose is healing up.

I still like to be first at meal times, so what's a few scratches when securing my position.

Cookie:  I decided not to pose for a photo session.

It's highly over rated.

We hope everyone is having much better spring weather than we are.  If so, could you send some of your warm weather our way?

Friday - Not Looking Forward to Weekend Weather!

We are supposed to get bad weather this evening, before midnight.  First rain, then on to freezing rain, snow, and eventually back to rain by tomorrow.

We are simply going to ignore this situation.  We have many ways.  Take a look:

Cookie:  See my disgusted look.  When will I be able to go out on the deck again?

I want to see some nice green grass.  Will it ever turn green again?
I will take a snooze while I wait.

Mindy: Oh, there's that darn flashy box!  I am looking a little bit crabby.

There! that's better, now I don't have the green 'lazer eyes' look.

Moe:  I just had a big fat idea.....

..... I know where to hunt for those delicious cat treats!!

I am almost certain that I saw them hidden in here!

Mike: Whatever,  I will stay comfortable right here.  Moe works best on his own.

However, if Moe does find something tasty - I'm right there!

How are all of you going to spend your weekend - complaining and disgusted like we are - OR - are you going to share some exciting and/or interesting news wif us.   Show us some nice green grass, or some bright flowers, or some bird TV!   Well, you pick!!!

Update!!!

As of 10:00 pm this evening, we looked out the door to see this, which is just getting started:

It is endless Winter even though it is officially Spring - however, Spring is not back from vacation yet.
