Mindy's Mystery - revealed!

It's Mindy posting today. I want to tell you what happened on Friday night......... I got really nervous. It was a typical Friday night, though, and it was warm and still light. That means the door to the deck was open, so I was able to look out the screen door, smell the air and hear the sounds. Only thing is, there was something strange going on out there. I could hear something and smell something. Mom noticed I was curious but agitated. See my agitation pose in this picture?

Mom decided to go out onto the deck, 'n check things out. Boy, did she get a surprise! Ha, I tried to warn her. She looked over on the other side of the deck where we keep our 'green' cart and this is what was there.

She called it a racoon........I call it trouble! It was on our green cart. Mom tried to talk it into leaving - yeah, right. It was having none of that. Instead it seemed to think it was invited up onto the deck.......mom went back into the house real fast! She got a squirt bottle of water and went back out and had to use it on Mr. Racoon to convince him to leave....so much for talking him into leaving. Yep, I could'a told her that would be no good. Mr. Racoon lumbered, yes took his sweet time, and went up into our apple tree. This is not the end of my post, though. Mom did the strangest thing. She came back in the house and got her flashy box and went back outside to the apple tree, carrying the squirt bottle......then she took a picture of this trouble-maker!!
'Beans are very strange. Do other cats' beans act this strange?

oh yes beans are weird. that is a good picture. i think if she uses the flashy box enough, he won't come back. we had a racoon in our yard who had SIX babies. Mommy named her Georgia and all the babies George. So, much like on Seinfeld, it was the summer of George!
Careful, almost all the racoons around here in Ohio have rabies, and they poo on daddy's deck and make him mad.

Yes, beans is weerd. We can not repeat dis enuff...Dis is furry strange but mom asked da vet and da guy dat runs our animal control center fur da county and dey bof sed dat dey haffent seen a big prollem wif rabid raccoons here. Mom is kinda surprised cuz our nayborhood is full of old bats, um, I mean bats dat haf been here awhile. We'z furry careful anyway...ya just neffur know.

Oh, we almost forgot. Da vet sed dat distemper or calcivirus is a much grater risk wif raccoons and skwerrels den rabis.

WOW! Mindy, I can see why you got all puffed up. That raccoon looks very scairty. I have never seen one before, except in pictures. He looks very vishus.

My Mommie does the same thing: takes pictures of everything. She even took a picture of the alligator in our yard!

Your Mom should have known something was up when you puffed up! Raccoon's look pretty fierce. We get possums and armadillos. And our Mom takes a gazillion pictures of everything! We think she lives with the camera around her neck just waiting for us or anything else to move.

Yes, our Mom is always running for her camera. Trouble is by the time she gets back, whatever she wanted to take a picture of isn't happening any more.

You were very brave trying to warn her about that vicious racoon! We see them raiding our birdie feeders.
