Winter in Atlantic Canada

Our first snowfall of the season.

Snow sliding off our bird feeder - our snowstorms are often mixed with rain.  Our word for this situation is, "greasy".

Our street is not plowed, but the school bus made it up our hill anyway!

 Mindy: Bleh! glad I'm indoors.

Mombean here:  I like to capture photos of the first snowfall, it looks so picturesque.

Window Cats

Last time we reported in, mombean was away at grandbean's house.  Grandbean's kitty, Pip, has gone on to the Rainbow Bridge to be with her sisfur, Squeak.  Pip lived to be 18 years old.

Grandbean, however, is not without a cat though.  She still has Stripes.  Mombean got a photo of him to show you all.

Stripes is a senior kitty and he is a very quiet and mellow, fellow.  Mombean has never heard him 'miaow'!!  He is very good company for grandbean.

While mombean was visiting she took a photo of a photo in the upstairs hallway.  Grandbean just had her 87th birthday last month!  We posted about it here:
  birthday

The copied photo is one of grandbean but taken on her wedding day in Glasgow, Scotland,  in 1946.  We thought you might like to see it.

We were glad when mombean returned because we missed her.  Things are back to 'normal', which means we should get on with the theme of our post - windows.  We love our windows.  Just take a look.

Mindy is looking into the backyard.  It is cool this morning and the birdies are flocking to our feeder looking for sunflower seeds.

Moe:  I better look too.  Bird 'TV' is the best.

Perhaps we'll both look out of the windows!

Notice that we each have our OWN window!

Bono has a window all to himself as well.

Bono:  I likes the heat, so I is in this sunny window.  I may even take a nap on the window sill.

Cookie:  Do you mind if I don't seek out a window?  I was having a lovely nap until I was disturbed by that darn flashy box.

I think I'll have a few more zzzzzzzzzzzzzz's before lunch.

Mike:  did someone mention lunch/food?

Mombean, we have a problem.   I check this container that we keep our food in - and it is almost EMPTY!   It needs refilling right away.

Mombean says:  Don't panic, Mike, I have a secret supply.   We are not out of food.

Our hope is that everyone has enough food and a window or two to look out from.  Have a great day!

Mombean is Away

Mindy here, just wanted to say we may not be able to blog for a few days.

Our mombean is going to away to be with grandbean.

Grandbean's kitty is not well.  It is most likely kidney failure, mom thinks.  Her kitty, Pip, is 18 years old, maybe older, mom isn't sure.

Grandbean needs some help to deal with this.   We'll be back when we can.

November Tuesday

We've been gone for a week and missing out on visiting and updating our blog,  because our human beans went away and left son bean in charge.  Son bean does know lots about computers, but not about blogging.  Also, we had to train him to get us breakfast on time.

Bono decided that a good nap after breakfast is very productive!

He is dreaming of menu ideas for the next meal.

While our humans were away visiting relatives, they took a trip to a local vineyard.

These are bigger grapes than the vine in our backyard produces.   However, mombean made two small jars of grape jelly from ours.  We were proud of her efforts even though we don't like grape jelly.

When they got back, mombean went over to her sister's home.  Her sister is Tillie's mom

You can see Tillie's mombean making coffee before the two of them went out on their Ghost Walk.  They waited until nearly Halloween to go on the tour because by then it would be dark when the tour started.

They met the other beans going on the tour at the Town Clock

They met up with about 30 other people and the storyteller too.  Off they went!  This building is one of the oldest in the city.  It is now a restaurant.

Mombean said they were told that a spirit hangs out by the salad bar.  She wasn't sure about that, but they certainly have spirits in some of their other bars.

Mombean took a few pictures of some of the old buildings they passed

Last night Mike was being helpful as usual.  He helped mombean get out the Halloween goodies to pass out at our door.

Cookie insisted that he accompany mom outside in the yard this morning.

It is a lovely, sunny day and he saw this Chickadee rush over to the bird feeder after mombean added more sunflower seeds to it.

Cookie, however, was too busy eating blades of fresh, green grass to take much notice of it.

Mindy wants to show you the Canada Holly that grows wild in our backyard.

People collect it to make arrangements for decorating.

Is is my turn now?

Hi, it's Moe.  I just wanted to show you all my handsome face!

Mindy on Monday

Mindy:  I am in charge of our blog this morning.

See my laptop?   It does not fit my paws very well, so I get mombean to do the typing.

Here is Bono (the hopeful).  He loves milk or cream.  But, guess what, I don't think that there is any of that
 left in the small pitcher.

Cookie is also in the kitchen.  If there are going to be handouts, he is ready and waiting!

Before I forget, I wanted to show you our fall crocus.  They were quite lovely, until we had all that rain last Thursday.

Also some people in our area have started decorating for Halloween, some in a big way!

Oh, there is my brother, Moe.    Yes, we are litter mates, and sometimes I tease him, he doesn't like that, but that's okay because he can't get into my hiding place!!

Last there is Mike.  Last because, he was the last one to come into our family.  He is the biggest and loudest of all us kitties here.

Hope everyone is having a good start to the week!!

Catch Up Thursday

We are back today, after taking a break.   Actually, mombean took a break.  The other two beans in our home - dadbean and sonbean - do not know how to help us blog.   They know lots about computers, which is useful, especially when the computers suffer from hairballs.

Mombean went away to help grandbean celebrate her 87th birthday!   Here's a photo of the two of them, they were making plans to go out  to have a celebration lunch, along with auntiebean.

They had a great lunch, then took a sightseeing drive to the bay which wasn't far away.  Mombean says the bay is called the Bay of Fundy which has very high and low tides.

We are guessing that this is low tide!  We were not there;  however if there were lobsters in those traps at the end of the wharf, we could have been  pursuaded.

Next they returned to auntibean's home, which is ruled by our furcousin, Bradley.  Bradley insisted we post his photo for the girl cat's to admire.  The first closeup photo shows him lying on the floor, giving mombean a 'dare touch by belly' look.  She just took the photo, she knows better.

Mombean likes this photo she took of him.

When she got home, finally, we were all there to greet her.

Mindy

Moe

Bono:  did you wake me up just for a picture?

Cookie

Mike
Um, mombean are these edible?

No, Mike, those are grapes.  That is our entire crop from our one vine.  I hope to make a couple jars of jelly!

Mike: how is our catnip growing?
Mom: Slowly.

We hope eveyone is having a great Thursday!  We are all going to take another nap - it's raining.

Frosty Friday

Good Morning!  Cookie reporting to day.

I just checked to see if the lap top is on.   Next I'll get mombean to help me with our blog.

It has turned cold, yesterday we saw some snow flurries, yikes.
However, in spite of a sunny morning, mombean went out on the deck and saw frost!

It won't last though, which is good because I like going out on the deck, but hate cold feet!   Before the sun hits the garden,  mombean took a couple of 'frost' pictures.

Our grass

at the edge of the lawn, the plants look so white.

Don't worry they'll survive, it's a  light frost.

As soon as this blog post is finished, mombean is going to get busy.  She has been collecting ingredients.  Huh, ingreedy....what?  Not sure what she means.  I see, she says it has to do with food.  Ok, I'm interested, I LOVE food.

Cookie:  Mombean what IS this stuff on da countertop?
Mombean:  I need to make a vegan Tourtiere and a vegan friendly pumpkin pie.

Cookie:  Oh, now I remember, someone in our family does not eat meat or dairy and they are having a get together to celebrate three birthdays and Canadian Thanksgiving, too.   Um, how can you have a proper celebration without turkey?

Mombean:  Oh, Cookie, there's going to be a roast turkey, would be like us to bring you back some?

Cookie:  I bet you know what my answer was!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and on Monday - Canadian kitties celebrate Thanksgiving and in the US it is Columbus Day!

Wednesday Washday with Bono

I heard dat washing machine start up.  I raced - okay, maybe I just walked fast - to the laundry room.

After a bazillion years da machine stopped churning and sloshing around - den comes the exciting part.  All da water dat was in da machine comes rushing out, really fast.  This is my favorite part!!   Then da water swirls around and around in da set tub, it's fascinating to watch - really, try it yourself.

After a few minutes da waters start disappearing into da drain hole at the bottom of the tub.  After dat,  I's not sure where it goes, but the fun part is over a'cause der's no more water left.

I wish mombean would come and watch wif me, she is missing all the fun!
