Caterday with Mindy and Mike

Our Caterday started out with lotsa fog.  So we decided to stretch out our naps.

Mike
Also our human beans were doing some home improvements.   It is best to snooze through anything like that.

 Mindy
Yes, Mike, I would agree.  Although,  last time I looked out of the window, it was quite sunny, warm and no sign of mist, fog or whatever.
I think I heard our mombean starting up the lawnmower.

She was almost finished when she came into the house to report to dadbean and us that she got stung by this critter or something close to it!  A hornet maybe??

In two places - on her ankle and knee.  The grass cutting was definitely over for today!  She says she is lucky that there is very little swelling and just some redness and only "stings" a bit.......yup, she felt those stings.   She should have stayed inside  and curled up with us and  a good book!!

PS ... Mindy here, I had a dental cleaning last Wednesday.  My mouth is still sore, but I have meds - in a paste form which get applied to my ear!! - to help with that.  I get only soft food for now, which I like.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

We don't blame you for napping though the day. We're glad your doing better now, Mindy.

Looks like you two are having a good snooze. Too bad the Mom got bitten by that bad flying insect. Hope she is all right. You all have a great Sunday.

Hornets are bigger than than bumblebees and yellow jackets are smaller. Both sting freely. But hornets are single nd yellow jackets are kinna groupish. If you see something flying around a hole its probly yellow jackets. Hornets sometimes nest in holes but not in large groups.

Ouch for your Mom. Did you have any teeth stolen from you? If you did, let me know and I will send you crocheted catnip toys- I am the tooth fairy for the cat blogosphere. You can email me at pilch92@aol.com

TBT here: I an sorry to hear it was a yellow jacket. Hornets come in a few except for those ones you see in trees. You need to kill the nest because the Yellow Jackets collect underground in 100s to 1,000s and they LIKE to attack and sting intruders.

One online gardening expert says to but a glass bowl over the nest entrance and they can't get out and it cooks them. But I know the guy from when he was a wannabe comedian editor for Organic Gardening magazine, and I always thought he was a bit of an idiot. Just my personal view of course...

*I* had a yellow jacket problem years ago where they nested (in of all places) in a pile of discarded carpet cushion aboveground. It took me nights of slowly pulling the pile open with a grappling hook on a long rope for safety.

I was finally able to use a jet spray RAID For WASPS on them and soaked them all dead. It took several days of careful shop-vac use to suck them all up pulling away the carpet cushion carefully wearing heavy leather gloves (their stingers work even after they are dead).

A few years later, I had a nest next to my garden path, They can't burrow themselves, so they like mouseholes and such. I stuck a spray can directly into the ground hole and just emptied it inside. The stuff kills them like napalm!

When I dug it up slightly a few days later after seeing no activity, the first shovelful had 100s of dead Yellow Jackets. I set the shovelful back down and have not touched the spot since. I'll give it a decade more...

Yellow Jackets are mean and dangerous! They specifically hate noise and ground vibrations, so lawn mowers really get them active.

Get rid of that ground nest! There will be many more Yellow Jackets in there by Fall.

Aside from the 2 situations I mentioned, I walked on a stone wall as a kid and my foot went through to a nest. I was stung a dozen times as I ran away and it was awful. Fortunately, I'm not actually allergic to them. But it sure hurt like hell for several days.

And in a house I rented once, they got through an opening in the brickwork (a hole in the mortar where there had been a shutter) and set up a nest in the wall. I only discovered that when I heard them buzzing against the drywall in a bedroom!

Fortuntely, the homeowner was a brave idiot and put a ladder up and sprayed through the hole. He got stung several times. And then got stung again several more times cutting down the hedge round the yard when he "discovered" another nest.

Still, that room gave me the "willies" and I moved out soon after.
